In this virtual online workshop Barbara will teach you how to create special bezel settings for safely setting stones onto enamel surfaces. She will start with a demonstration on how to plan and prepare your metal surface before showing you how to enamel it. Step-by-step you will be guided how to construct the settings and getting them ready to set the stones.
Session I will conclude with a brief slide presentation providing examples and inspiration. The weekend between the workshop sessions will allow you to prepare your enamel piece and the settings. In session II you will have the opportunity to watch how to safely insert and secure your stones into your enamel design and finish your piece. Barbara will be available for Q&A during the workshop and after.
For practice and budget reasons the use of copper as a base for enameling is advised. Of course, you can apply foils for color enhancement as desired.
Barbara Seidenath is a jeweler, enamelist and educator based in Providence, RI. Educated in Germany, she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with Professor Hermann Jünger earning an MFA in Jewelry, before relocating to the US in 1990. Prior to her Academic retirement in 2023, Barbara has been a member of the Adjunct faculty team in the Jewelry and Metals Department at Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI for over 30 years. She repeatedly held a position as Associate Professor in the Jewelry and Metals Department at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design in Boston, MA, and has taught extensively in Colleges and Non-profit Craft organizations across the US. Sharing her knowledge with students has been her passion and her fascination with enamel as a medium has been a constant throughout her career.
