As a metalsmith, I am drawn to the physical transformation of metal and the process of building form by hand. Raising flat sheets of copper and silver into three-dimensional vessels continues to shape my practice and my understanding of the material. Through hammering, forming, enameling, and surface manipulation, I create work that emphasizes form, texture, and color.
Central to my practice is the art of enameling. I am fascinated by the alchemy of fusing glass to metal, allowing me to develop layered surfaces of luminous color. These radiant fields are enriched through techniques such as cloisonné, stencils, and sgraffito, creating contrast, pattern, and depth. By combining these methods, I establish a tactile dialogue between the brilliance of enamel and the solidity of form.
I also incorporate chasing, repoussé, and Keum-boo to contrast polished areas with textured metal details. Patinated raised silver and gold accents preserve the distinct qualities of each material through subtle variations in tone, finish, and surface movement.
My vessels are influenced by organic shapes, natural palettes, and objects that feel both functional and ceremonial. I strive to create work that feels intimate, tactile, and distinctly handmade rather than overly refined.
Through my work, I hope viewers recognize the value of handcrafted objects and the connections they foster between maker, material, and process. Despite imperfections, each finished piece carries a unique spirit and vitality that cannot be replicated by a machine.
