REDUCED CONFERENCE ROOM RATE!

The Marriott has reduced our special discount from $149/night to $119/night plus tax. Any existing reservations which were made using the Society code will be honored retroactively.

The Society is facilitating room shares at the Marriott. Fill out and submit the room share information form, and our room share coordinator, Merry Lee Rae, will contact you.

MEALS

Box lunches will be available for pre- and post-conference workshops at The Crucible only.
There are many wonderful restaurants serving a variety of international cuisines in and around the Marriott. The Conference has 3 designated events which include meals.

  • Saturday evening buffet dinner which precedes our live auction
  • Sunday lunch to honor the 2009 achievement award winners and to announce the winners of the 2009 raffle drawing
  • Sunday early evening closing party with buffet dinner, music, and dancing to honor the conference volunteers
Meal Plans:
Meals will be provided as follows for the conference and workshops (pre- & post-). Participants who require special diets should be sure to complete that information on their registration forms.

Package #1: Pre-Conference Only; $50 per person, 3 lunches August 4 - 6. Breakfast and dinners are “on your own.”

Package #2: Pre-Conference and Main Conference; $108 per person, 3 lunches during the workshop (8/4 - 6) plus Saturday evening buffet dinner and Sunday sit down lunch (includes coffee breaks.) All other meals are ”on your own.”

Package #3: Main Conference Only; $58 per person, Saturday evening buffet dinner and Sunday sit down lunch (includes coffee breaks). All other meals are ”on your own.”

Package #4: Main Conference and Post-Conference; $108 per person, 3 lunches during the workshop (8/4 - 6) plus Saturday evening buffet dinner and Sunday sit down lunch (includes coffee breaks). All other meals are ”on your own.”

Package #5: Post-Conference Only; $50 per person, 3 lunches August 10 – 12). Breakfast and dinners are “on your own.”

Package #6: Pre-Conference, Main Conference and Post-Conference; $158 per person, 3 lunches during the pre-workshop (8/4 - 6), 3 lunches during the post-workshop (8/9 - 12) plus Saturday evening buffet dinner and Sunday sit down lunch (includes coffee breaks). All other meals are ”on your own.”

Closing Night Party: $25 (Sunday August 9, 2009)

Transportation

  • To and From Oakland

    The Bay Area is a transportation hub with good public transit by land, water, and rail. Transit planner.

    Air Travel
    Fly into OAK (Oakland International Airport) or SFO (San Francisco International Airport)
    Ground Transport to and from the airport:
    BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) goes from both airports to the conference site, the juried exhibitions site, and to the Crucible

    Train Travel to and from Oakland
    A leisurely trip on AMTRAK to Emeryville,CA where you can take a free shuttle to the nearest BART station, which is two stops from the Marriott.
  • At the Conference and Workshops

    The Crucible is about 1 mile from the Marriott. Walking to and from the Crucible should only be done in groups. The Oakland Art Gallery is an easy two-block walk from the hotel.

    Public Transit
    The Bay Area has a vibrant nexus of transit options including ferry boats, subway (BART), busses, and trains.
    The Society encourages all attendees to use BART and other transit options while at the conference. The Marriott and the Oakland Art Gallery are located at the 12th St. BART station. The Crucible is 1 1/2 blocks from the West Oakland BART station (fare from the Marriott is $1.50 each way). Your registration packet will have a BART schedule and map. Discount BART passes for seniors over 65 will be sold at the conference registration table.
    Shuttles
    The Society will be providing shuttle service to and from the Marriott and The Crucible during pre- and post-conference workshops. The service is limited and must be reserved in advance for $30 per workshop session. Reserve this service when you register for workshop(s).

    Parking

    at or near the Marriott: valet parking (with in-out privileges), off-site self parking (contact the hotel)
    at or near The Crucible: small lot, street parking not recommended

  • To and From Santa Rosa

    We will determine transportation and lodging needs for KVO workshop attendees from outside the area after the workshop registration is complete.
